This park is one of our favorites in Maryland! It is a great area to explore. There are many places within a short driving distance to the park. We have been able to visit Assateague Island, Chincoteague Island, Virginia, Salisbury Zoo in Salisbury, Maryland, and Ocean City, Maryland. NASA’s Wallops Island Visitors Center is a short drive away as well. There are historic towns to explore like Berlin, Maryland. Berlin is the town where the 1999 film “Runaway Bride” was filmed. It is a quaint little town that claims itself to be the antique capital of the Eastern Shore. There are cute little shops and great restaurants. It is a great day trip!
There are great wooded sites. The park is on the river where you can fish and kayak. Pocomoke has two areas to camp, Shad Landing Area and Milburn Landing Area. Each area has several loops where you can reserve a site. There are some electric sites and primitive sites. There is potable water available in different locations in the campground. There are no full hookups, but there is a dump station and clean bathhouses with hot showers.
Pocomoke River State Park has its own amenities. There is a camp store, swimming pool, a visitor center, boating and fishing, as well as a nature center.
On one of our visits to Pocomoke, we were able to take advantage of the pool. It is a large, well maintained, olympic-sized pool. In the summer it is open on weekends only and is staffed with certified lifeguards. We were able to ride our bikes to the pool from our campsite. The pool is free to campers.
There are programs that campers can attend. You can check the schedule at the visitor center.
We really enjoyed our stay at Pocomoke! I am sure we will go back again!
