First Landing State Park is a beautiful and very popular state park in Virginia, located in the Virginia Beach area. This state park is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built partly by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s. There is a lot of history associated with this beautiful park.
The campground has great hiking trails and different recreational and educational activities. We rode our bikes around the campground to see what the other sites looked like. Some have more privacy than others. The campground itself is 2,888 acres with 1.5 miles of Chesapeake Bay beach and 20 miles of hiking trails. You can get a schedule of activities and trail map from the Park Office/Visitor Center. There is a boat ramp and camp store.
Many sites are water and electric hookups. They have clean bath houses and potable water around the campground. There is a dump station. They also have yurts and cabin rentals. The park is very busy in the summer, so you may have to book early. There are 205 sites.
Some of the sites are walking distance to the Chesapeake Bay Beach. Our site was near the walkway to the beach. The park is near a military training center and can be noisy at times. When we were there, we were close to the training base and didn’t find that it was particularly noisy. You can hear planes flying above, but that was all from what I recall.
While we were there, we decided to visit the
Japanese Garden in the City of Virginia Beach.
It was very peaceful and beautiful.
You can walk around and enjoy the natural beauty of the place. It is a great break from the congested tourist area
of Virginia Beach.
If you decide to fish at Virginia Beach or at the campground, you will need to get a saltwater fishing license. There are docks where you can fish and crab from as well as surf fishing.
We loved our visit to First Landing State Park. We will go again!
