Poplar Point Campground is part of the Jordan Lake State Recreation Area in North Carolina. This campground is very nice and rather large. There are 580 campsites, and we were lucky enough to get a water site. Unfortunately, on the weekend we were there, it rained the whole time. We went camping there in the winter and everything was open to us. As you can see from the picture, the trees were somewhat bare!
The site was beautiful, but we couldn’t enjoy the water because of the weather. This campground has about 360 electric sites. There is a dump station, bathhouse with hot showers, and potable water nearby. The sites were pretty level and there were trees in between the sites for privacy. Water access was very good.
The campground has a boat launch, fishing pier, a swimming area for campers, and hiking trails. This would be great in the summer!
Poplar Point is close to the Raleigh, Durham, Cary, North Carolina area. Even though we couldn’t do too much outdoors, we still enjoyed exploring the local towns as well as the other campgrounds in Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. Some of the campgrounds are open year-round, others are seasonal.
The recreation area has lots of amenities for day trips as well. There is a boat ramp, fishing piers, hiking trails, picnic areas, and swimming areas. There is also a visitor center that has exhibits and general information about the types of activities that are available.
We enjoyed our stay at Poplar Point and plan on returning during the warmer months so we can enjoy the water activities.
